Default Visiting Korallenzucht Coburg

It was 4 weeks ago when Korallenzucht moved the facility for their coral holding tanks. Yesterday we had the chance for a visit and we took some pictures. The whole system hold about 3200 gallons. It is just one tank so there are not overflows etc. The system is U-shaped with the size of 98 x 3,28 x 1,32 foot. The tank was flooded with freshwater (RO) about 4 weeks ago. After the temperature was up salt was added (Best Premium). Two weeks later fresh live rock was brought in and another two days later the sandbed. Everything was completely new and fresh. First corals moved 2 weeks after bringing in the live rock. Several imports where done since than and all corals are in perfect condition. At the moment there are about 1000 corals in stock which is about of the whole possible quantity. Current is done by 30 Tunze Turbelle Stream which are controlled by a Tunze Multi Controller. Here are some impressions, enjoy !

GA, let me understand this correctly. The tank is just 1 very long U shaped tank without sumps or overflows etc etc?

Farish its just one U-shaped tank and the sump is integrated so no overflows are needed.

Thumbs up

WOW, Alexander, Thomas should be proud, as the facility is perfect, with beautiful corals, many of them are huge Very well planned out. Do you know the quantity of zeolites that Thomas is using for this system? Although the Ca Rx is large, does Thomas need to supplement his Ca or Mg? No pix's of Sandra or you? Thnx. for sharing, Bob

Very nice! Thanks for posting .

I am also interested in what Thomas is dosing. Also, what is his plan for lighting? I can see all the MH reflectors, but what wattage is he going to run, 250w or 400w? Also what bulbs does he plan on running?

That last picture of the greenish/yellow coral is very nice!

Do you happen to know the origin of those corals?

thanks

Nick

Hi Bob, the 3 zeovit reactors hold 21 liters of zeovit. The CaCO2 reactor is filled with 55 pounds of coral gravel and 11 pounds of ZeoMag. No additional supplement for Ca and Mg is necessary. Indeed some corals have a impressive size. The last one I have posted has a diameter around 25 inch.

Baros, the facility is opened to the public also.

Hi Nick, Thomas is running the full zeovit system at those tanks, just strong skimming beside it. All the tanks contain a shallow sandbed and live rock.

The lighting may change as he is always experimenting. Most of the tanks are lighted with 400W & 1000W HQI bulbs. Some tanks especially for LPS, softies, Seriatopora, Stylophora and Pocilopora corals are running with Korallenzucht T5. Those bulbs have some addition of red spectrum which makes them different from others. He found red is very helpful for colouration.

All the corals are from Indonesia, some wilds, but the biggest part is aquacultured beside his own fragments.

Those are 3 different models of the regular BK skimmers. The water outlet from two to one piping was changed some month ago and as much as I know since than they all come with the one piping version.
