Hi, I'm new to Zeo but been reefing for 15 years. My system is rather new and I have started Zeo 1 week ago, since starting I have seen Dinoflagellates appearing. Any tips or recommendations appreciated. ZeoStart definitely appears to fuel them.

Hello RorsC, welcome

2. Water purification (including oil sump, etc.) - 400L

1 pack of ZeoVit material, 1 liter = 400L

1 L ZEOvit material for 400 L tank water. Flow 200 to max 400 L / h for 1L ZeoVit

Activated carbon, the amount of activated carbon is 0.5~1 liter per 1000 liters of water, (Zeo activated carbon is recommended),Use mesh bags (take care to avoid any related metal materials, such as zippers), as for Sump, passive flight, change every 30 days

Zeo Start 0.1ml=100L
400L=0.4ml Start x2 per day (total 0.8 ml a day)

Zeo basic products -
Zeo Bac
Zeo Start3
Zeo Sponge Power
Zeo Vit
Zeo's activated carbon

17. Live rock (how much, how big, etc.) - None - Caribbean life rock
I don't know much about it, dry rock, biological time may take a long time, it is recommended to add some quality live rock

The guide recommends water quality parameters -
Kh 6.5~7.5
Ca 400~420
Mg 1250~1300
K+~ 380~400

18. Any current question - Dinoflagellates begins to appear
Do you get the microscope so that it is confirmed?
Does coral tissue begin to show signs of TN?

Is this a system conversion? (Convert to Zeo system?)
If yes, ZeoVit reactor, 3hr on and 3hr off, for system conversion, Zeo base products are added at different doses, Let us listen to G.Alexander's more professional advice.

Hi RorsC

First I would like to be sure those are rally Dinoflagellate not any kind of diatoms or something else. Do you have a chance to post a good picture of them ?

Additional Dinoflagellate does disappear in the dark period growing back quick when the lights are switched on in the morning, is this the case ? Do you have access to a microscope ?

No, it does not disappear at night. It's constant whether light or dark. Unfortunately I haven't been able to locate a microscope.

Great, I heard this news.

Then, if the number of this thing is not much, I suggest you take it out temporarily and use a toothbrush to clean it.
Or if the "phenomenon" appears in the local rock, then it should be good to replace/eliminate it.

Then maybe using some quality live rock instead, it might be a good choice.

Thank you. I have been cleaning and siphoning regularly which helps. I have measured No3 @ 4ppm and Po4 @ 0.07ppm. They have risen since I lowered the amount of Zeostart3. Should I continue to dose Zeostart3 to lower them to just detectable?

Than those are no Dinoflagellate for sure, which is really good.

How much ZeoStart do you dose at the moment ?
2 x 0.4 ml daily would be the right amount for your system volume.

This is good to hear! I'm dosing 0.5ml daily. I will change it to 0.4ml x 2 daily. Thank you very much.
