Default ZeoFood vs SpongePower - New Tank

I'm currently cycling a 90 gallon reef using the Zeovit method and things are looking really good after a week. I'm going according to the Zeo guide. I successfully ran a 210 gallon years back using this method (using the guide) with amazing results and have done a 125 since not using but never again. Zeo proved to be a great method. However, the guide doesn't seem to mention anything about SpongePower though I've read a couple recent threads that suggest SpongePower instead of the Zeofood.

Is the SpongePower new? Should I substitute it for the Zeofood? What's the difference? Is this a question that requires filling out the tank 'survey'?

Thanks so much!!

Hello thearnley, you are right, the current version of the basics uses SpongePower

SpongePower, which adds biology
Food7 can be added after water malnutrition, coral appearance adjustment

Sponge Power does have a positive side effect to the biology which makes it ideal to cycle a fresh system. ZeoFood can be used later once if the system does contain corals running nutrient poor stabile.

Great! Thanks for the info. Got the SpongePower ordered. I'll cease the Zeofood. 1st fish will probably be going in this weekend. Think I'll start a thread for my tank before I get any livestock
