Hey George...

markalex:
You mean in the frag tank because of the turbellaria?
There I have 2 ATI coral plus and 2 ATI blue plus.

The main tank will get new bulbs soon.
I am not sure which combo I will install there...

kind regards
George

Tanzgarnelen gehen, wenn sie gefüttert werden nicht an Korallen... Zwei befreundete Händler haben Tanzgarnelen in ihrem Showbecken mit als besatzt... Es funktioniert ohne irgendwelche Übergriffe...

OK - interessant!
Hab letzte Woche mein Mischbettharz erneuert.

Hi,

New bulbs are installed now:
3x ATI blue plus
2x ATI coral plus
2x ATI special
1x KoZu Fiji purple
4x KoZu new generation

It's a bit wild mixture, but for the moment it looks nice

I think the tank is on a very good way now...
After solving the K+ problem by raising the level to 390 I saw a good improvement on all corals!
Also the new bulbs seem to be appreciated by the SPS.
Coloration got a bit brighter and a bit more intense.

Next weekend I hope I will add some more corals
Did not have much time in the last months to go for coral shopping and I do not like online shopping for corals...
Then I think it will finally look like a reef tank again...

regards,
George

Hi,

Here 2 quick pictures from my cell phone...

Will try to make some with the DSLR during the week.
Pics from iPhone don't look good - too much blue and bleaching of bright parts...

regards
George

Hi,

So, after round about 6 months, I have some new pictures of the tank:

In the last weeks, the corals had some kind of up and down.
For some reason, the KH and Ca consumption went down some weeks ago.
I kept my dosings as they were before.
Then it stabilised again and the growth rate was better.
Now I clearly see growth tips on almost all SPS.
I do not know what happened...
Maybe it has something to do that I took out the rollermat fleece?
I wanted to see if it makes a difference to the corals if I use it or not...
Since then, I -of course- had more particles in the water.
Anyway - the colours have become darker, but the corals seem more vital to me.
We will see how it develops...

kind regards
George

EDIT:
I use a different image hosting service now.
If the pictures do not show up for somebody - please let me know.

Hi Dennis,

Regrettably it does not look very good here...

At the beginning of 2018 I decided to replace the calcium reactor with Balling.
I always had problems to keep the parameters at a balanced level between KH and Ca...

So I removed the CaRx and tuned the tank with 2 Part Solutions.
This worked very smooth and the levels were perfect and stable after 2 weeks.
But until this point I had very small bottles for the fluids...
Then came the mistake:
I bought some acrylic containers from a fish store for the two fluids and added the balling solutions in them and hook them on a dosing pump.
Of course I rinsed these containers with hot water before!
But after a week it seemed that the corals do not feel well.
One more week later it got even worse and I had to refill one of the containers.
Then I was shocked as the Ca-Fluid smelled like a chemical production facility...
I immediately removed the fluid and did some water tests:
Nutrients went through the roof, almost no more consumption of KH and Ca
Obviously there was some kind of chemical reaction between the fluid and the plastic container.
And I guess that what came out there and in the tank, killed the complete biology.
You can imagine what happened to most of the SPS corals...

I did some big water changes then, to get the problematic stuff out of the water.
Some SPS survived but they do not look very good.

At the moment the tank is stabilising again.
But the corals still look very bad - we will see how this will develop over the time.
I am still struggling to get the nutrients down, so at the moment Nitrate and Phosphate is still too high.

A very bad lesson learned once again!

kind regards
George
