ZB will have a bad smell when it goes bad. that's usually my indication. also you need to keep an eye on the expiration date. if ZB is refrigerated after open at all time, I depend on the expiration date, if for some reason it was left without refrigeration for a day or so, I judge based on the smell.
with ZB I usually buy the smallest bottle and keep couple in the refrigerator and go through them as needed this way I manage its usage against its shelf life.
with BM I depend on the expiration date and just make sure its refrigerated all the time, BM have better shelve life than ZB BTW.
