Hello all who read this,

I recently have started running a reef tank using Zeovit. The specs for the tank are as follow.

1. Gross water volume of your complete system (incl. sump etc.) -
250 US gallons

2. Net water volume (incl. sump etc.) -
~200 US gallons 20% of net volume

3. Are you using a CaCO2 reactor or other technique
No I am not

4. Are you using a PO4 reactor (how long, how long ago, etc.)
No

5. Are you using Ozone
No

6. Are you using UV
Not a UV sterilizer I'm using some in the leds but they are at a max of 25% of whatever my max light output is at (varies on the time of day).

7. What skimmer are you using (type, rated water volume)
Nyos Quantum I'm guessing the 160. Not going to lie im not 100% sure but it works well so far.

8. What are your actual PO4 and NO3 levels
PO4 levels are at .06 (Hanna Digital Checker). NO3 are reading 0 (Red Sea).

9. What are your actual Ca, Alk and Mg levels
Ca 450 (Red Sea), Alk 7 (Red Sea), and Mg 1280 (Red Sea)

10. What filtration method do you use (refugium, DSB, Miracle Mud, etc.)
I have an eShopps sump with a refugium compartment built in, but the Zeovit magnetic reactor pumps into it.

11. Type of light (Watt, color temp, how old, etc.)
I have 3 Radion XR30 Pros gen 3.

12. What corals do you keep
Currently I have a few ricordea yumas, a green branching hammerhead, a green pocillopora, and a tri-color scan echinata.

13. Tissue color (light or dark)
The mushrooms are a little bleached (lights have recently been turned down). The pocillopora is bright green from above, and tan Brown when looking from below. My hammer is bright green with bright purple tips. The Echinata is deep purple bright orange and a green.

14. How long has the tank been running
The tank has been running for about 2-3 months.

15. Why do you want to use the ZEOvit system
I like look of well kept corals. I also want to maintain a clean, and healthy reef aquarium.

16. Any supplemental dosing (type, amount, why, etc.)
Aquavitro Balance it is to maintain a PH of 8.1.

17. Live rock (how much, how old, etc.)
I am sitting at 250 or so lbs of live rock. Most of it was out of previous tanks that were established for 1 or more years. 50lbs I cured from dry for 6 or so weeks before setting the tank up.

18. Any present problems
Brown algae bloom.

19. Problem description (tissue loss tips, tissue loss base, diatom bloom, algae, etc.)
My PO4 rose so now there is an algae bloom. I think it is high from an overdose of Sponge Power.

20. What test kit do you use (how old, recently switched, etc.)
I currently use Red Sea for Ammonia, NO2, NO3, Ca, Alkalinity, and Mg. I use a Hanna Digital Checker for PO4.

21. Present dosing, amounts and intervals (ZEOvit, ZEObak, ZEOfood, ZEOstart, ZEOspur2, etc.)
Current dosing regime is ZEOstart .7 ml 2x daily
Monday Sponge Power 2 drops
Tuesday Bio-Mate 8 drops, Pohl's Xtra 4 ml
Wednesday Zeofood 2 drops, ZEObak 8 drops
Thursday Pohl's Xtra 4 ml
Friday Sponge Power 2 drops
Saturday Bio-Mate 8 Drops, Pohl's Xtra 4 ml, ZEObak 8 drops
Sunday ZEOfood 2 drops
Sponge Power and ZEOfood are in the display. All the others are in the sink with the skimmer off for 15 minutes.

22. Other water parameters and water stability (salinity, temp, etc.)
Salinity is a little low currently 31.1 ppt, but that should change on Saturday when I do a water change. Ph is around 8.1.

23. Which salt brand do you use
I use the Aquavitro salt which I buy pre-mixed from the local fish store. I believe it is higher in calcium but I haven't tested it yet. I should though.

The fish and invertebrates stocked in the tank are
1 Yellow Eye Kole tang
1 One Spot Rabbitfish
2 Clown fish (a frostbite, and a black ice)
4 Numerous Chromis
1 Engineer goby
1 Red Wine Scooter Dragonett
1 Harlequin Shrimp (currently has a chocolate chip star for food)
1 green carpet anemone
16 hermit crabs

My main goal of this post is as an introduction. My second goal is to get advice on how I should continue running the Zeovit system, or to get some idea If I'm in the right track. Lastly I'm looking to see if there is a better way to deal with the high PO4 that I have than my current method.

The method I am using to reduce the PO4 consists mostly of a Yellow Eye Kole tang, 2 turbo snails, and 1 red banded turbo. I also am using the Bio-Mate in thinking that it will help.

Hi Mezztaz

Can you please tell how much ZeoVit material you have running and what exactly the reactor flow is ?

Please also tell us which kind of sand you have used.

If you increase the salinity all basic water parameters will increase also so please make sure to cross check the salinity with a different accurate instrument to make sure your result is correct.

How low does the PH goes if you do not add the PH buffer ?

Sorry it took me so long.
I use 3 litres of Zeovit material
With aproximately 225 gph of flow it took about 16 seconds to fill a gallon.
The PH drops down to about a 7.92 with a high of 8.28 and an average of 8.11 when I was adding the Balance.
I did recently recalibrate the salinity probe (Monday). I did check the salinity with two refractometers from the lfs. Both showed a salinity of 1.023.
The sand was Carib-Sea araganite it was live...

You do not need the PH buffer, I would recommend to stop dosing it the PH you get without is really not a issue.

The combination of live sand and ZeoVit is know to not work very well, many had issues with constant algae / cyanos until they replaced the sand with a shallow bed of aragonite for example, just something to keep in mind if they are not disappear over the time.

Lets also try to change the dosing regimen:

ZeoBac – 8 drops 2 x weekly
ZeoStart – 0.8 ml 2 x daily
BioMate – 16 drops every other day for the next 2 weeks, than 2 x weekly
SpongePower – 8 drops every other day

Stop dosing XTra and ZeoFood at the moment.

Ok, so I changed the dosing regime. I'll keep in the sand bed in mind, but in the meantime I'll hope I get lucky. Thank you G. Alexander for setting realigning me.
