Default Dosing regimen assistance for established ZEO system

Tell us about your tank.
Please give us answers to the following questions in order to get more accurate dosing recommendations.

1. Gross water volume of your complete system (incl. sump etc.) - US gallons / UK gallons / liter: 150g
2. Net water volume (incl. sump etc.) - US gallons / UK gallons / liter: 100g
3. Are you using a CaCO2 reactor or other technique:No
4. Are you using a PO4 reactor (how long, how long ago, etc.):No
5. Are you using Ozone:No
6. Are you using UV:No
7. What skimmer are you using (type, rated water volume): AVAST Marine Protein skimmer, swabbed and davey jones locker
8. What are your actual PO4 and NO3 levels: 0.02, 0
9. What are your actual Ca, Alk and Mg levels: 425, 7.28, 1240
10. What filtration method do you use (refugium, DSB, Miracle Mud, etc.):None
11. Type of light (Watt, color temp, how old, etc.): 3 ecotech radion
12. What corals do you keep: SPS, LPS, soft
13. Tissue color (light or dark): light
14. How long has the tank been running: 6 years but ZEOVIT for 1+ years
15. Why do you want to use the ZEOvit system:
16. Any supplemental dosing (type, amount, why, etc.)
17. Live rock (how much, how old, etc.)
18. Any present problems:cynao
19. Problem description (tissue loss tips, tissue loss base, diatom bloom, algae, etc.)
20. What test kit do you use (how old, recently switched, etc.): hanna checker, red sea
21. Present dosing, amounts and intervals (ZEOvit, ZEObak, ZEOfood, ZEOstart, ZEOspur2, etc.) ZEObak and ZEOfood 5 drops at 2x per week. ZEOstart 1mil daily. Aminos-2 drops daily. Potassium Strong-8mil daily
22. Other water parameters and water stability (salinity, temp, etc.) 1.025, 76avg
23. Which salt brand do you use: Red Sea

So basically my question is, does this dosing regimen look correct for an established ZEOVIT tank? I keep getting small cyano outbreaks and with all of the different ZEO additives was not sure if I needed to add others or remove ones I currently run since I now have a mature system.

Hi bdubsposse

For a 100 US gallon system your dosing is a little bit high. I would recommend you some smaller changes:

ZeoBac – 4 drops 2 x weekly (except after a zeovit exchange, than dose daily for 10 days)
ZeoFood – 4 drops 2 x weekly
ZeoStart – 0.4 ml 2 x daily
AAHC – 4 drops 2 x weekly
B-Balance Strong – as needed to keep the K+ level around 380 mg

Run 1 liter ZeoVit with a flow of ~ 100 US gallons per hour.

The cyanos can also be a result of a wrong lighting spectrum, maybe you can play around with it to see if that does cause any change.

Additional make sure that your RO water has a TDS reading of zero.

Additional you use a treatment like korallenzucht CyanoClean in combination with CoralSnow, this has helped many in the past to get rid of them. Once the cyanos have gone you can dose CyanoClean 1 – 2 x weekly for precaution.

Nice to know I am not that far off!!!

I am using one of the EcoSmart templates, "High Growth" for my radion xr30 and a 5 stage Chloramine rodi system with TDS always at 0.00 until it begins to creep up which means time for a resin change.

I had dosed the tank with UltraLife Red Slime remover because I had great success with this product in the past prior to creating this post.

Regarding, the CoralSnow and CyanoClean. You mention adding the CyanoClean to my maintenance schedule but what about the CoralSnow. Not real familiar with either of these products as to what they will do for my tank maintenance.

Thanks again!!!

I can not really help you with the LED setting, never used LED for my systems but to much red in the spectrum for example can improve cyanos.

Both Coral Snow and Cyano Clean can be dosed 1 – 2 x weekly in any kind of a system. Mixing both is just necessary if you active treat cyanos.

I am not familiar with the red slime remove product you use but often those kind of products do have a negative impact to the biology, not sure if that is the case with it.
