Default Reefer 450 going ZEOvit

I have performed two 50L wc, 25/12 and 28/12. Corals with STN have improved today, looking better.

Since the start of zeo all of my corals have improved slightly. They look healthier and growth is better. Nutrients are at the same level as before zeo, no change so far.

Added 2dl KZ carbon 24 hrs ago, no signs of stress on the corals. Did not treat the carbon with hot water, better to give the system a soft start. Will add 2dl more carbon next weekend.

By the end of the week it's time for the first 90% change of zeolites. Anything in particular to keep an eye on after the change?

At this time I will also remove the pellets reactor from the sump, relying on the zeolites to keep nutrients under control.

I would not recommend to remove the rest of the pellets and exchange the ZeoVit at the same time. How many 10% of the pellets do you still have running at the moment ?

You can soak the fresh zeovit material in RO water for 2 or 3 days before using it, replace the water daily. After the exchange dose ZeoBac daily for 10 days, than 2 x weekly as usual. Replace just 90% of the material and keep ~ 10% of the old material in the reactor.

There are about 10-15% of the biopellets left in the reactor. I removed 50% pellets when I first started Zeo, then 50% more for two weeks in a row. Nutrients not affected.

I have an idea of slowly increasing the time ON, and decreasing the time OFF on the clock timer to get a soft start with running the zeo reactor 24/7. Starting 2 weeks after the first exchange of zeolites. How about that?

PO4 starting to drop slowly, from 0,11 to 0,07 in three weeks.
NO3 no change.

Water parameters today:

Salt: 3,5%
Temp: 26,2C
KH: 7,7
Ca: 400
Mg: 1290
K+ 390
pH 8
NO3: ~10
PO4: 0,07

Dosing of Balling solutions increased every week. SPS and LPS corals showing good growth.

Photos showing Acropora growth 9 november - 30 december.

Sounds good, would recommend you to keep the pellets for additional 10 days or so after the zeovit exchange, than you can remove them completely, should prevent a increase of PO4.

Thanks!

Green biofilm on glass has increased the last couple of days. Should I consider any actions?

Dosing:
4ml ZEOstart morning and evening.
4 drops ZEObac every third day.
4 drops Sponge Power every second day.
1L ZEOvit zeolites
Reactor flow measured 360L/h
Reactor running 3 hrs on, 3 hrs off.

Should be 0.4 ml ZeoStart 2 x daily instead of 4 ml 2 x daily.

If all goes well I would recommend to do the first ZeoVit exchange next week, replace 90% of the material. After the exchange dose ZeoBac daily for 10 days.

Has PO4 increased since the start ?

0,4ml of course.. typo.. my bad.
System is four weeks this weekend, time to exchange zeolites.

PO4 has decreased slightly since start up, NO3 at the same level. NO3 10ppm, PO4 0,07ppm. Things are going in the right direction.

Two days after first exchange of zeolites and a 50L water change.

NO3 decreased a tad. It's very hard to get an accurate reading of the Red Sea Nitrate Pro kit in high range. But in good daylight I'm quite sure it's somewhere between 8-10 ppm.
PO4 has dropped from 0,11 to 0,05 ppm in three weeks. Measured with Hanna HI713, that's great.

Two acroporas are slightly affected with white tips after the zeolite exchange, but I don't think I'll have to change anything yet. I'll monitoring them closely.

In general, sps are looking better and better and are showing good color and growth. Euphyllias are showing better polyp extension the last two weeks.

I removed the biopellet reactor a couple of days ago. PO4 first increased a bit but then went back down again. NO3 also increased a little bit and have stayed at that level. Measured both this evening.

NO3 - ~15 - Red Sea Nitrate Pro Test Kit
PO4 - 0,04 - Hanna Phosphate Low Range Checker

A couple of Acroporas and a red plate Montipora are showing slightly lighter colors, could this be due to lower PO4 level?

Two Acroporas are still showing tip whitening on some tips, A. Valida and A. Hyacinthus. Hyacithus is sliming a bit too. Both look better in the evening. See attached photos.

Have had some brown algae on sand, rocks and glass for a couple of weeks, a little less today. Green algae film on glass. Also a little bit of white bacteria film on the glass just at the water surface. Glass needs to be cleaned every day. Water have a touch of algae smell.

Other than these minor issues the SPS and LPS corals look really well and show growth, some more, some less.

By the end of this week the system is six weeks with ZEOvit.

Other water parameters, measured yesterday:

KH - 7,2
Ca - 400
Mg - 1320
K+ - 390
Salt - 3,5%
Temp 26

Might there be any kind of a fish nipping at the tips ?

The lighter tissue should be a result of the reduced PO4 level since the start.

No fish nipping on corals. No signs of crabs either.
White tips came with the ZEO conversion. I don't see it as a problem yet, maybe these two corals just need to adopt for an extended time. I'll keep the zeo filter running on the clock timer for a couple more weeks.

When is the time to start dosing additives for coloration?
