Default Starting Zeovit on a new tank and need some help.

Hello.
This is my information.
Please give us answers to the following questions in order to get more accurate dosing recommendations.

1. Gross water volume of your complete system (incl. sump etc.) - US gallons / UK gallons / liter
35g

2. Net water volume (incl. sump etc.) - US gallons / UK gallons / liter
3. Are you using a CaCO2 reactor or other technique
No

4. Are you using a PO4 reactor (how long, how long ago, etc.)
No

5. Are you using Ozone
No

6. Are you using UV
No
7. What skimmer are you using (type, rated water volume)
Innovative Marine Ghost Slimmer
Specifications
Dimensions: 3.62 x 3.07 x 11.22
Tank Capacity: 40 gallon
Designed For: Fusion 30L and 40
110-120V/60HZ
6.5 watts
Flow Rate: 158 GPH

8. What are your actual PO4 and NO3 levels
Haven't started it yet.

9. What are your actual Ca, Alk and Mg levels
Haven't started it yet.

10. What filtration method do you use (refugium, DSB, Miracle Mud, etc.)

11. Type of light (Watt, color temp, how old, etc.)
Going to use Ati T5

12. What corals do you keep
I want an Sps dominant tank with some Lps
13. Tissue color (light or dark)

14. How long has the tank been running
Haven't started it yet.

15. Why do you want to use the ZEOvit system
Low nutrient system, coral growth and health.

16. Any supplemental dosing (type, amount, why, etc.)
Plan on using c balance 2 part

17. Live rock (how much, how old, etc.)
Using Life Rock by CaribSea, using about 25 pounds

18. Any present problems
19. Problem description (tissue loss tips, tissue loss base, diatom bloom, algae, etc.)
20. What test kit do you use (how old, recently switched, etc.)
21. Present dosing, amounts and intervals (ZEOvit, ZEObak, ZEOfood, ZEOstart, ZEOspur2, etc.)
22. Other water parameters and water stability (salinity, temp, etc.)
23. Which salt brand do you use
Instant Ocean
This tank will be sandless

I would like to use the whole Zeovit system. I know there isn't a reactor for my size tank so I would like to use the media in a bag. How would this work in my system and how would I go with the dosing my tank. Any information giving would be appreciated.

Sand is highly reccomended as it adds to the stability of the system and looks much nicer. I would let the tank sit with the pumps and skimmer running for a few months while adding zeovit and some fish food daily you dont have to add much. This will prevent future head aches like cyano and diatom blooms aswell as stn and rtn problems

Hello Lisavet2000

Here you can find a good step by step guide to cycle the system if it does not contain animals already:

Thanks for the replies. The reason I want to go sandless is because I have always had all my tanks with sand. Right now I also have a 150g that has sand. I love the look of the sand but I want to go a different way with this new tank. I am going completely different with this new tank than what I am used to.

Thank you for the dosing instructions. I just have a question. I will be using the media in a bag since there is no media reactor for my tank. I read that this will work as long as you shake it every day. I just want to make sure, is this correct? I am now just starting to read about Zeovit, so any advice would be appreciated.

As Bugger said the sand makes the system more stabile if it comes to the biology but it can be used without sand also.

The material can be used in a media bag but the effectivity to process nutrients is much lower compared to a reactor. Building such a reactor is relative easy:

Thanks for the thread G.Alexander. I might end up going that way. Hopefully I can figure out how to make one small enough to fit in the back area of my tank. My tank is an all in one, so I don't have that much space.

I also have another question. In the 14 day cycling period it mentions the lights on for 10 hours. Is having the lights run during the 14 days important?

Yes it is as different algae will start to grow while the cycle just if light are one, otherwise this might happen later if you start with the lighting period.

I filled up my tank today and I have a question. I still do not have my Zeovit. Can I start the cycle with Live Nitrifying Bacteria and then start with the Zeovit after or should I just let my tank run with out the bacteria and just start the Zeovit as soon as I get it? Remember, I do not have live rock (used dry rock) and I do not have sand.

My recommendation is to wait until you have everything together to start the cycle. Make sure to soak the rocks very well so they do not leach PO4 anymore. You can fill up the tank before just do not place animals in it.

Thank you!
I will be receiving my Zeovit on Friday. My lights may be here on Friday also, if not then on Monday for sure. So I may start my light schedule a couple of days late. I hope that won't be a problem. Also I don't have my skimmer yet. I won't have for a couple of weeks. Will it be OK to run the Zeovit without it?

Installing the light a couple of days later is not a problem but the skimmer is necessary so I recommend to wait until starting the system for the skimmer.

So I went ahead and ordered my skimmer. Should be here on Monday. I already received the Zeovit so I have decided to start everything on Monday. I just need to make sure I am OK with the dosing. It says for the first day..

ZEObak: 5 ml per 100 liters/25 US gallons
ZEOstart: 10 ml per 100 liters/25 US gallons
Sponge Power: 3 ml per 100 liters/25 US gallons

My water volume is a total of 27 gallons. I was planning on just dosing for 25 gallons. Would this be correct? I don't want to over dose so I figured just sticking to the 25 gallons would be the safe way to go. Also, I still haven't made a reactor so I will be starting with the media in a sock. I calculated about a cup of Zeovit for my tank. Would this be correct? Also, is there a certain time and location in the tank I should dose? Any advice would be appreciated. I want to make sure and do everything right from the start. My lights arrive tomorrow, so as soon as I have them mounted, I will take a picture of my tank and post it.

Your plan sounds good, the calculation with 25 US gallons is fine.

For the Zeovit calculation use of the quantity which is in the bag. You can easy do this by weight. Just keep in mind that it is a natural material so the weight can differ so each time you open a new bag weight it before.

When you do this initial dosage switch off the skimmer for a couple of hours, otherwise dose in the last sump camber, it is just important to dose behind the skimmer when it is running.
