Algea issue

Hi I am on day 31 with Zeovit. I have been following the New setup guide and am now at a roadblock. My system is 100 gallons total water volume. I started with dry rock, am running my reactor with 1L of stones, 3 hrs on , 3 off, etc. My salinity is 35PPT, phosphate reading 0 using a Hanna colormeter. Calcium is 420ppm (Salifert), Alk is 7.7(Hanna). Temp 78F. I started having a brown algea issue a few days ago, I **** off lights for 3 days and it seemed to go away but after 3 days with lights back on it has returned. Any ideas?

Hi zanclus :)

http://www.zeovit.com/Banners/zeoWel...apeEnglish.jpg

Have you used the following method to cycle the system ?

http://zeovit.com/forums/showpost.ph...60&postcount=7

Please also post the actual PO4 and NO3 level and tell us which kind of test kits you use for those two parameters.

For later reference it would also be good to know some more details about your system:

1. Gross water volume of your complete system (incl. sump etc.) - US gallons / UK gallons / liter. 130 US Gallons
2. Net water volume (incl. sump etc.) - US gallons / UK gallons / liter. 100 US Gallons
3. Are you using a CaCO2 reactor or other technique. No
4. Are you using a PO4 reactor (how long, how long ago, etc.) No
5. Are you using Ozone. No
6. Are you using UV Bo
7. What skimmer are you using (type, rated water volume) Red Octopus 152-s. 150 USG
8. What are your actual PO4 and NO3 levels PO4= 0.09 (hanna) No3= 2.5 (salifert)
9. What are your actual Ca, Alk and Mg levels. Ca= 425 (salifert), Alk 7.5 Dkh (hanna), Mag 1460 (Salifert)
10. What filtration method do you use (refugium, DSB, Miracle Mud, etc.)
11. Type of light (Watt, color temp, how old, etc.) T5 ,6×39W ATI bulbs 2× aquablue, 2× blueplus, 2×coral plus
12. What corals do you keep. sps, Lps
13. Tissue color (light or dark) light
14. How long has the tank been running On day 34
15. Why do you want to use the ZEOvit system. Results of other refers
16. Any supplemental dosing (type, amount, why, etc.) Havent started any supplements as of yet
17. Live rock (how much, how old, etc.)
18. Any present problems  brown. And green hair Algae
19. Problem description (tissue loss tips, tissue loss base, diatom bloom, algae, etc.)
20. What test kit do you use (how old, recently switched, etc.)
21. Present dosing, amounts and intervals (ZEOvit, ZEObak, ZEOfood, ZEOstart, ZEOspur2, etc.) Zeobac 4 drops every other day, zeofood 4 drops every other day, Zeostart .4ml every day, .1ml doses 4 times each day
22. Other water parameters and water stability (salinity, temp, etc.) Salinity 35PPT, Temp 78-79f.
23. Which salt brand do you use HW Marine. Reefermix

I also have followed the cycle guide and have approx 9000gph flow with tunze 6095s and 1000gph return pump, ( Neptune cor15)

Thank you first thing I would change is the reactor flow. Use 1 liter of the material with a flow of ~ 100 US gallons per hour continuous.

Lets also change dosing a little bit:

ZeoBac – 4 drops 3 x weekly
ZeoStart – 0.4 ml 2 x daily
SpongePower – 4 drops every other day

If the first 4 weeks have passed replace 50% of the ZeoVit material. After each exchange dose ZeoBac daily for 10 days. A couple of days later replace the carbon (use 0.4 liters passively flown) so it should not be at the same day as the ZeoVit material.

To get rid of the algae stop dosing ZeoFood and dose 4 ml CoralSnow pure daily if you already have it for 2 weeks in conjunction of removing the algae manually regular. Also some herbivore like snails or a sea urchin should support this process.

I have 80 GPH running through my reactor.
I have been pumping it, 10 pumps, twice a day 12hrs apart

G.Alexander 07-17-2018 04:33 AM

The reactor flow is a little bit low, lets try to increase it to ~ 100 US gallons per hour.

I raised the flow to approx. 100gph is a tiny bit less, closest I could get.
Took photo of tank this morning, added some clean up snails and a few hermits the other day.

Hi zanclus!

Besides the fact that the system is new, I can almost guarantee that algae has grown a lot by using zeofood. My system is also relatively new with zeovit and the same size as yours and today I am dosing 1 drop 2x per week of zeofood and the algae have disappeared.

Sorry for my english google translator

Best Regards!!

I removed the hair algae and dosed the spongepower and coral snow. Tank looks much better.

Good job! You can put some corals to see their subsequent reactions, usually under the steady light (kh ca mg) of sufficient light and water flow and low nutrient salt, the coral gradually extends and grows well, if at low nutrient levels The focus k is usually 380, and kh is 6.5~7.5. Tank is moving towards the perfect road, congratulations on your completion

At this point, biology is not very stable. Sp is very helpful, then you can consider putting a fish to assist the tank, and carefully feeding it, paying attention to the level of po4, and then ZEOvit potion
The amount of the component can be referred to the ZEOvit guide.
After the period, replace your zeolite for the first time, after changing 90%, give bak ten days a day, when you add the first creature, you will add
Into activated carbon, the amount of activated carbon is 0.5~1 liters of activated carbon per 1000 liters of water.
